One thing any bargain hunter should be doing is entering competitions online, there are many websites out there that will list all the biggest and best competitions for you and most are really simple to enter – sign up to a newsletter, 'Like' on Facebook or answer a simple question – so they only take a short amount of time.

Over the years I have won all sorts of smaller items from £5 gift vouchers and copies of software up to bigger prizes such as a Wii and a laser cosmos projector!

Personally I can't imagine winning such a large amount of money, a years salary in one fell swoop really would be a life changing amount and I would definitely put it towards buying a house – we are renting at the moment and as any bargain hunter knows renting is essentially just throwing money away.
